Accessibility Statement
Accessibility Statement
We keep pace with our visitor’s expectations by intentionally creating an inclusive and accessible website for everyone.
Visit California is committed to providing an accessible digital experience to all individuals. The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) is the benchmark for measuring digital products. An independent governing body maintains WCAG and it is regularly updated to guide content publishers.
We strive to meet or exceed WCAG version 2.1, Level AA, to ensure our site is accessible to a wide audience of individuals with different needs.
We are continuously maintaining and updating several key areas that are common friction points for visitors:
- Screen Reader Compatibility: We test our website with popular screen readers.
- Keyboard Navigation: We support those who can not use a mouse or touchscreen and use only a keyboard to navigate the site.
- Alternative Media: Images and non-text content have descriptive alternative text. When possible, videos are captioned.
- Color Contrast: We maintain sufficient color contrast to support a high-level of readability — not only for those who are color-blind, but for bright and sunny or low-light conditions as well.
- Responsive Design: Our website is designed to be usable on mobile devices with varying screen sizes and hardware features.
- Semantic & Valid HTML: To support the widest array of devices and assistive technology, we regularly validate the syntax of HTML and CSS on the site.
Evaluation and Compliance
To maintain a high level of support for our users, we regularly evaluate our digital products by partnering with 3rd party experts, utilizing automated testing tools, conducting manual usability testing, and responding to feedback from our visitors.

Known Limitations and Alternatives
Despite our best efforts to ensure the accessibility of VisitCalifornia.com, there may be some limitations. Below is a description of known limitations, and potential solutions. Please contact us if you observe an issue not listed below.
Known limitations for VisitCalifornia.com:
Embedded Media Limitations
The following vendors provide embedded interfaces to handle different types of interactive and social media content. The external vendor has control over the markup that we embed on the page. Visit California passes comments from our users to these vendors and encourages them to make adjustments when we are notified of barriers. Please report issues you may encounter relating to media limitations. These include the following elements and services:
- Embedded social media feeds from Instagram via CrowdRiff
- Embedded social media story content from LocalHood
- Embedded Podcast player from Libsyn
Videos from YouTube may not have captions or audio descriptions
External video contributors may not follow the same accessibility guidelines that we adhere to because not every content author has the means to provide captions and/or audio descriptions for their content. We encourage contributors to supply these alternatives whenever possible. Please report issues you may encounter relating to YouTube Limitations.
